We have many interesting artefacts relating to the history of The Sir George but the letter from John Sheahan requesting to purchase the land that the pub now lays it’s foundations is particularly special. This is a typewritten transcript of the letter John Sheahan wrote to the Governor General in 1852, requesting to purchase the land he subsequently built The Sir George on. Beautiful language and an illuminating summary of his life and circumstances at the time.
